Viva La Vida
Viva La Vida, meaning "live in the moment" in Spanish, reflects the philosophy of a restaurant dedicated to fresh ingredients and creative Italian pasta dishes for the past ten years. Committed to seasonal ingredients and authentic flavors, the restaurant recently relocated due to changes in the consumer market. However, the new space retains elements from the past, such as the original furniture and lighting. The core principle of restaurant is focusing on each dish, and in the new space, about 40% of the area is dedicated to a well-equipped cooking zone, ensuring the best quality and efficiency—even at the cost of seating capacity and table turnover.
The design of the space is inspired by the image of sifted flour, which is transformed into the ceiling and lampshades in both the interior and exterior. The local heritage of Kaohsiung is honored with century-old tile pieces and the traditional bamboo weaving craft. These elements are integrated into the space using hexagonal weaving techniques, creating a semi-transparent, unique entrance and a double-layer, hexagonal-weaving reception counter. This transformation of a 50-year-old house brings a refined character, where the restaurant’s dedication to cuisine and ingredients is expressed through the design, conveying the spirit, craftsmanship, warmth, and story behind the restaurant.
